Canada Border Services Agency wins Bank of Canada counterfeit deterrence award

This year’s winners are a team from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) who worked in partnership with the Bank of Canada and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s National Anti-Counterfeiting Bureau.

Over the course of 2023, Darren Ouderkirk, Stéphane Legault, Philippe Sincennes, and Jacquie Gawlina of the CBSA developed a method to flag and analyze international shipments of interest.

Their efforts led to the seizure of large volumes of counterfeit Canadian bank notes.

The award recognizes their efforts in intelligence analysis, partnership building, and their contributions to protecting the financial safety and welfare of Canada.

The winners were honoured at the annual Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Summit, held in Halifax on August 13, 2024.

This award, which the Bank began presenting in 2004, recognizes the outstanding achievements of criminal justice professionals and educators involved in the prevention and deterrence of bank note counterfeiting in Canada.
